This creative activity transforms a few printed sheets of paper into a real little portable house. Children begin by personalizing the different rooms and the facade with their Colored Pencils & Markers, before cutting, folding and assembling their house.
Once finished, it can house their favorite figurines or paper characters created especially for the occasion. Coloring the scenery, choosing the arrangement of the pieces, and then inventing stories allows them to use their imagination and creativity, while also developing their fine motor skills through cutting, folding, and gluing.
Start by printing the different templates of the activity. They will be used to create the exterior of the little house as well as the four rooms that will be placed inside.
Grab your crayons! Color the inside of the different rooms as well as the outside of the house. Encourage your children to choose their colors and personalize their decor to imagine their dream home.
Carefully cut out each piece following the outlines. Children can complete this step with adult assistance if needed.
Fold each inner piece in on itself along the markings. Also fold the front of the house so that its exterior remains clearly visible when it is closed.
Glue the different pieces inside the house. It’s up to you to choose their placement and order to create a completely personalized little house.
Once all the pieces are in place, fold the outside of the house to form a small booklet. You can use a paperclip to keep it closed and easily open it when it’s time to play.
Your house is finished, now it’s time to play! Get out your children’s favorite figurines or suggest they create their own paper characters. They can now open their little house, imagine new inhabitants, and invent countless stories, both at home and elsewhere.
